Practice Tests

Choose from the articles below if you would like to compute your current reading speed like we did in class. Set a timer for 4 minutes and read using the reading process we used in class.  Count the words you read (include all the passes through the article) and divide by 4 to get your words per minutes.

Following the readings are some questions to answer. Remember, these questions are not the final word on your comprehension. As we discussed in class, true comprehension does not mean you have memorized the book. It means you understand and can articulate the ideas of the book and can integrate them into your life knowledge and perspective. There are plenty of people who can memorize a book but have no idea about the concepts. But you will find that over time, you are remembering more and more about what you read.
